from: Electric Stair Lift Vocabulary

As technology continues to grow, a lot of high-tech devices were
invented. One of the newest devices that are available today is
the electric stair lift. It is a device that is attached to the
line of the staircase to aid those people who are not capable of
exploring the stair.

Every time a person is going to buy an electric mobility lift,
expect that the dealer or the salesman will cite or introduced
some unfamiliar terms. To avoid confusion, the person must be
aware with the different terms used in describing the features
of the lift.

The list below show the unusual terms that the costumer should
familiarized with.

1. Lifting capacity- it describes the total load that the
disability lift can carry every time it moves along to the
staircase. Usually, a lifts has a maximum capacity of 350
pounds. Lifting capacity should always be greater to the weight
of the user.

2. Drive system- it is a term used to describe the type of
technology that is used to run the electric-powered lift.

3. Fold-up and unfolded dimension- fold up dimension refers to
the amount of space that the lift occupies when it is being
folded up to the wall. The unfolded dimension describes the
amount of space when the machine is ready to use.

4. Rail- it is a path where the chair lift will run on. The rail
should match to the type of the staircase that you have in your
home (straight, curved, spiral) as well as the rail length
should be long enough.

5. FPM (feet per minute) - like a car, the all types of
disability lifts has also speed measurements. FPM describes the
speed of the staircase lift. The speed should not be too slow or
too fast.

6. Soft start and slow stop- the stair lift should start and
stops gently so that the user will not loose his/her balance.

Like electric home lifts, and straight ones, electric-powered
lifts saves a lot of space in the staircase. It operates quietly
and gives the disabled people a safe and smooth ride. Bear in
mind all the terms mentioned above, so that you will not be
confused if ever the dealer introduced them to you.

Knowing all this term will be a great help for you to decide
which electric stair lift is proper for you.
