Advice For Those Considering Installing A Stair Lift

from:

Have you thought about installing a stair lift in your home? It
could help you stay independent and in your own home for longer.
Many people enjoy the extended independence which is granted to
them by a stairlift in the face of old age or disability.

A stairlift can help you get up the staircase. It normally takes
the form of a seat which is fitted to a rail which is attached
to the staircase. The chairs are electrically operated and are
intended for the use of those with disabilities or chronic
mobility issues.

Many elderly and disabled people injure themselves trying to
scale the staircase unaided, with many needing hospital
treatment as a consequence. Installing a stairlift in your home
is one way to avoid this fate. Stairlifts can often be folded
away when not in use, so residents at the property who do not
need assistance can climb the stairs safely.

Stairlifts can be fitted on all types of staircases, not just
straight ones. They are also installable on curved staircases,
although this tends to be more expensive due to the tailor-made
nature of curved stairlifts. Most stairlift companies will come
to your house before installing a stair lift, so they can get a
good idea of what is needed. Some companies even offer
reconditioned stairlifts which could be cheaper than a new one.

If you struggle with movements in your hands, stairlifts are
available with joystick controls, making it easier to manoeuvre
around your home.

Stairlifts are fitted to the stairs, and you do not need to
worry about damage to the interior of your home, since
stairlifts can be removed and leave no trace. A stairlift can
only increase the value of your home. Installation will rarely
take longer than a couple of hours.

Stairlifts are generally powered by electricity, which makes
them pretty useless in the event of a power cut. Battery powered
stairlifts are available, which automatically charge themselves
at the top or bottom of the staircase.

Most stairlift companies have a 24-hour phone line in case of
emergencies, allowing users to request engineers to attend
faulty or malfunctioning machines.

If the company you purchase a stairlift from do not have such a
phone line, you'll have to wait and contact them during office
hours, which isn't ideal. Look for round-the-clock assistance
from your stairlift provider, as being stuck at the top or
bottom of your staircase for several days is unthinkable.
